چکیده

Concern over construction vibration-induced cracking has led to development of a new approach to vibration monitoring, an autonomous crack comparometer (ACC). This paper describes sensor performance and chronicles the first steps in the development of this concept, illustrated in Figure 1. A single sensor measures both weather-induced micrometer changes in crack width and those produced by habitation and ground motion-induced vibration. This comparison is displayed in real time via the Internet without human interaction. Measurements reported herein show that weather-induced response of cracks is greater than that caused by presently allowable construction-induced vibration. Graphic display through the Internet more convincingly compares these differing responses. Visual comparison avoids the abstract complexity of vibration time histories and required belief of past comparisons of vibration levels with crack initiation. Finally, the Internet provides a mechanism of direct public participation in data collection and interpretation. A numerical investigation into the crack effects on the natural frequencies of the plates

In the current study, the effect of such parameters as the length, position and angle of crack on free vibrations of a cracked plate was examined by finite element method. The assumed crack was internal and through and its growth was ignored. In the proposed finite element model, crack was considered as a discontinuity on the plate surface and the results were compared with the results of other...

Determination of Stability Domains for Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Using the Weighted Residuals Method

Finding a suitable estimation of stability domain around stable equilibrium points is an important issue in the study of nonlinear dynamical systems. This paper intends to apply a set of analytical-numerical methods to estimate the region of attraction for autonomous nonlinear systems. In mechanical and structural engineering, autonomous systems could be found in large deformation problems or c...

Life-wise Language Learning Textbooks: Construction and Validation of an Emotional Abilities Scale through Rasch Modeling

Underlying the recently developed notions of applied ELT and life syllabus is the idea that language classes should give precedence to learners’ life qualities, for instance emotional intelligence (EI), over and above their language skills. By so doing, ELT is ascribed an autonomous status and ELT classes can lavish their full potentials to the learners. With that in mind, this study aimed to d...
